On October 17, third grade students from Benton Hall Academy in Little Falls took a field trip to Utica University.
This class trip is thanks to a partnership between the Little Falls City School District and Utica University’s Educator Preparation Program.
Teacher candidates from Dr. Thomas Diana's EDU 344/544: Elementary Science Methods are placed at Benton Hall for fieldwork, led by mentor and EBD Director, Tracy Young. Then, four times a year, Benton Hall Academy students visit Utica University for a school trip.
Utica University Chemistry Professors, Dr. Michelle Boucher and Dr. Alyssa Thomas, lead STEM learning activities such as UV light and sun protection, material properties, the chemistry of tie dying, and natural disasters. Trax also made a surprise appearance during the students’ class visit!
It is the Educator Preparation Program's hope that this experience will plant the seed in the young students’ minds about their potential to succeed in STEM fields, including STEM education.
