UC English Professor Leising Publishes Several Poems in Prestigious Reviews
Gary Leising, professor of English at Utica College, has had several of his poems published recently in the James Dickey Review, Asheville Poetry Review and Ghost City Review.
"I Should Think These Are Pretty But" and "Portrait of J.K. with Butterflies" are two poems from Leising’s book manuscript titled No Stopping. The poems are in the current issue of the James Dickey Review, a biannual literary magazine published by Reinhardt University. The Review publishes scholarly writings, poems, and book reviews, many of which are inspired by the works of poet and novelist James Dickey.
The poem “Particular Animals” was recently published in the Asheville Poetry Review. This poem begins with a list of famous animals and connects with animals in people’s lives today. The Asheville Poetry Review is an international annual literary review that publishes original works of poetry, literature and essays.
Last month, Leising’s poem, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)," was published in the Ghost City Review. This poem is about Jimi Hendrix’s performance of a Beatles song, and addresses the famous myth of the parakeets in London and their supposed descent from Hendrix’s own two parakeets.
Leising earned his Ph.D. in English and Comparative Literature with Creative Dissertation from The University of Cincinnati. He teaches courses in creative writing, poetry, and composition, and also serves as the faculty adviser for the Utica College student literary journal, Ampersand.
