In a remarkable feat, the Utica Valorant team has secured its spot in the Grand Finals of the East Coast Conference as the #2 seed, following an electrifying 2-1 victory over Molloy University in the semi-finals.
The Pioneers avenged from their semi-finals loss from last year, but the next challenge? Facing off against the reigning champions, Southern New Hampshire University, a formidable opponent that clinched the East Coast Conference title twice last year.
However, Utica is not to be underestimated. Utica Valorant, led by Captain Hong "aNchor 2D" Jin, founded the club initially in 2020 before the varsity program launched in 2022.
Hong Jin is on a mission to achieve his initial vision as a true pioneer. Hong is backed by talents Britain "Pristiined" Sharpe, Ethan "Wizard" McPherson, Kalad "Sorryson" Bahilwan, and stand-in Chris "c0mplex" Ostinett, forming a championship caliber roster that is ready for victory.
“It is a profound honor to witness our Valorant team's journey to the grand finals in the East Coast Conference. This is not just a milestone; it's a monumental achievement that speaks volumes about our program's growth and the bright future ahead,” said Daniel Sportello, Director of Esports Operations. “Our success is a reflection of our collective commitment, resilience, and the extraordinary support we've received.”
This season marks a redemption arc for Utica, as the Pioneers seek a total turnaround from last year's run. The team's commitment to their craft is undeniable, with rigorous practice sessions five days a week, regular group workouts, and unwavering determination.
The Utica University Esports Program has been on a meteoric rise, shining a spotlight on the institution and its rapidly growing program. Since its inception last fall, the program has garnered attention and accolades, solidifying its presence in the esports community.
“I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our partners, American Dairy NorthEast and FITGMR. Their support has been pivotal in promoting a lifestyle of physical and mental fitness, giving us the edge to stay composed and outperform our opponents under pressure. The influence of FITGMR, especially through Coach "Nano" who's passionate and dedicated guidance, has been instrumental in honing our team's competitive edge,” said Sportello. “This victory is a testament to the power of a well-rounded approach to esports, where physical and mental well-being are as crucial as in-game strategies. We are more than just a college esports team; we are a testament to what can be achieved with the right support, hard work, and a holistic approach to gaming. The future looks bright for Utica Esports.”
