Institute for the Study of Integrative Healthcare Names Inaugural Faculty Fellows
Fellowships are granted through a competitive process for the support of cross-disciplinary, community-embedded research related to practices that promote population wellness and support equitable and inclusive community health access.
Four members of Utica University's faculty have been awarded fellowships by The Institute for the Study of Integrative Healthcare.
The fellowships were awarded upon the recommendation of the Faculty Fellows Committee of the Institute Advisory Council.
Lucia Corriette, Adjunct Lecturer of DPT, and Maryam Hashemian, Assistant Professor of Biology, were each awarded fellowships for a cross-cultural study of dietary supplement use. They will be investigating the experiences of individuals in the United States, Canada, The Caribbean, and Iran. Collaborative community partners include providers of healthcare in each country. This study is also being supported by Professors Deanna Errico and Samantha Marocco (Physical Therapy) and Terri Provost (Biology).
Laurah Klepinger, Assistant Professor of Sociology, and Nicole Scienza, Assistant Professor of Psychology-Child Life, were each awarded fellowships for the study of integrative healthcare practices used by families and children in Central New York. They will survey and interview families in collaboration with The Child Care Council of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oneida County and use their research findings to develop a curriculum for childcare providers to teach families about integrative healthcare practices and how to advocate for them with their healthcare providers.
