Before his academic tenure, King held senior roles at notable firms such as Booz Allen Hamilton and Next Gen Federal, where he was pivotal in the deployment and troubleshooting of sophisticated cybersecurity infrastructures across multiple cloud platforms. His tenure at Peraton as a software development engineer saw him engaged in developing an open source based cyber threat intelligence platform, which earned the 2017 Harris Technical Innovation Award.
