Biography
Judge Virkler serves as an Associate Dean of Justice Studies at Utica College. He is a graduate of LeMoyne College, Syracuse, and holds a master's degree in business administration from Syracuse University. Judge Virkler began teaching at Utica College in 2001. He was named Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice in 2011 and Criminal Justice Department Chair on Jan. 1, 2012. He is the elected Chief Justice of the Town of New Hartford and has served in that Court since January 2000.
In 2006, Hon. James Tormey, Administrative Judge, 5th Judicial District, appointed Judge Virkler to the District’s Town & Village Courts Advisory Board. In Spring 2008, Judge James Murphy, District Supervising Judge, appointed Judge Virkler to the Peer Review Committee for the District, and in that capacity, he served as Chairman of the District’s first Judicial review. In 2009, Judge Virkler was appointed by Judge Tormey to serve as a mentoring judge for newly elected Justices in Oneida County. Judge Virkler is Past-President of the Oneida County Magistrate’s Association.
Effective July 2012, Prof. Virkler was named Executive Director of Economic Crime and Justice Studies. and subsequently was appointed Associat Dean.
