All contact with the Student Health Center is strictly confidential. Medical information is released only with students' written permission. MEDICAL RELEASE FORM Must be completed and returned to office for records request.
Students are responsible for notifying their instructors of absences caused by illness or injury. See the Absences section of the student handbook or catalog for information regarding class absences.

Student Health Form

All students must complete and return a HEALTH FORM ( the packet includes a history form, physical exam and immunization page) prior to the start of classes.

Student Health Insurance

Utica University requires all full-time students and all part-time nursing students to have health insurance coverage.

NOTE: International students are required to purchase the health insurance plan designed for international students. There is no waiver for this plan.

Q: Where is the Health Center located?

The Health Center is located in the Strebel Student Center room 204.

Q: What are the hours of the Health Center?

The Health Center is open during the academic year M-F 8:30am-5:00pm, Closed everyday 12-1.

Q: Do I need to schedule an appointment to be seen or can I just walk in to be seen?

We only schedule appointments to be seen. Please call us at 315-792-3094 to set up an appointment to be seen.

Q: What do I do if I have a medical emergency?

On campus: Call campus safety at 315-792-3046 for the UC-EMS to respond.

Off campus: Call 911

Q: If I am not feeling well after hours, but it is not an emergency, what should I do?

You can contact your insurance carrier to see if they have an on-call nurse line to guide you. If you have the health insurance plan through the University, you can contact the 24-hour nurse line that is available to you. You also could utilize telehealth, which may be subject to a co-pay with your insurance carrier. Or you could do the following:

If you are not feeling well when the health center is closed and you need medical attention, you can go to one of three urgent care facilities:

Q: Is there an office fee to be seen at the Health Center?

No, there is no charge to be seen at the health center. However, any required lab tests done and sent out will be billed to you by the independent lab company performing the tests and may result in out of pocket costs to you if your individual health insurance coverage denies or does not fully cover the cost, including co-pays. You will be subject to pay any bill associated with any laboratory testing. If labs need to be performed then we will need you to bring your insurance card information to be sent out with the laboratory testing.

Q: Do I need to purchase the student health insurance to be seen at the Health Center?

No, all students qualified, can receive services from the Health Center.

Q: I have a new health insurance card since I completed the insurance waiver. Do I need to inform the Health Center of the change?

No, just know that if any laboratory specimens are sent out you will need to produce the new insurance card so the laboratory can bill the correct insurance. Any cost that is not covered or denied by the insurance, becomes the responsibility of the student to pay the bill from the lab.

Q: I have prescriptions. Can I get them filled at the Health Center?

No, we do not have an onsite pharmacy. We do have many local pharmacies that you can have your prescriptions filled and some even deliver to you. See the attached list of pharmacies in our area. Any ADHD medication will have to be provided by your provider at home we do not prescribe any ADHD medications.

Q: I have a medical appointment off campus, how do I get there?

You are responsible for securing your own transportation to off campus appointments. Public transportation is available through public buses with regularly scheduled service and stops on campus. Other options include Uber, Lyft, and city cabs that can get you to your off-campus medical appointments.

Q: Will my parents be notified if I have been to the Health Center or if I am sick?

The health center staff will only contact your parents if there is a life threatening illness or concern or if you are a minor - age 17 and under. If you are being sent to the hospital, we ask you to contact your parents to let them know or provide a consent for us to speak with them. If you sign a medical release giving the provider permission, the provider will discuss the condition with your parent, with consent. If you were seen at the health center and your parents call to discuss the visit, you will need to sign a medical consent to release information, while you are here, granting permission for the provider to discuss your specific appointment with your parents.

Q: Does the Health Center provide allergy injections?

We recommend you set up an appointment with a local allergist, who specializes in allergy treatment, to continue your allergy injections at their office. Local allergy offices for you:

The office will need you to call in advance and schedule an initial appointment to meet with them prior to or soon after you arrive on campus. In addition, they will need the following medical records and information from your prescribing allergist:

Clinical notes from your last check-up visit
Complete results of your allergy tests
Current schedule with contents of sera that coincide with labels on vials
Frequency of injections and late instructions

It is very important that you make arrangements prior to coming to campus by contacting your allergist now to make sure that you have all of this information to bring to your initial appointment. If the office has any additional requirements, they should notify you at time of scheduling.
